Michael Rumsewicz

Biography:
Michael Rumsewicz's studies were undertaken at the University of Adelaide. He graduated with a first class honours degree in Applied Mathematics in 1984 and was awarded his PhD in 1989. Michael has worked primarily in the telecommunications industry and academia.

Michael Rumsewicz joined the The University of Adelaide in October 2002 as a Senior Research Fellow, became Director of the Teletraffic Research Centre and Professorial Research Fellow in March 2004, and Director of CDCIN in 2006.

From 1988-1994 he worked at Bellcore as a member of the Network Services Performance and Control Group, specialising in performance analysis of telecommunications systems and played a leading role in Signalling System Number 7 congestion control research and outage analysis efforts. In 1994 he returned to Australia and led performance analysis research at The Software Engineering Research Centre of The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (1994-1999), where he developed new concepts on robustness and scalability for distributed web server platforms and subsequently managed their technology transfer to Ericsson.

From 1999 until 2001 he was with Ericsson Australia as the Team Leader for the Ericsson - Melbourne University Laboratory (EMULab) which specialises in network performance research. He has also undertaken a number of consulting projects for his own companies, Look Forward Pty Ltd and Telic Australia Pty Ltd. His consulting activities have included projects for Austel, the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (Hong Kong), Telcordia (USA), NSW Crown Solicitor's Office, Olympic Co-ordination Authority, Qnetworx (USA) and the Metropolitan Ambulance Service Royal Commission and the Victorian Department of Justice.

At The University of Adelaide he has led a range of network and statistical analysis projects for clients including Telstra, Tenix, DSTO and SA Lotteries.

He has written over 40 refereed journal and conference articles, has 3 patents granted or pending, has been a reviewer and programme committee member for a number of international conferences, and is an IEEE member.
